Just giving you all a quick update i just had my CT scan and MRI done today so im happy that is over and done with as i hate being in that small tunnel. I go and see my specialist on Friday Feb 16th so talk about my scans and to rule out any problems with my spinal cord etc etc. CT scan was to check my L1, L2 and L3 pedicles to see how big they were cos thats where some screws will be going. I've also got mulitple congenital malformations to they need an MRI to see whats happening in there.

Well i hope i get good news and good news only as i really don't want to hear any bad news as having this surgery is scary enough i couldn't imagine getting bad news.

I'll keep you all updated as soon as i know anything.....

Well its been a while since i posted on here. Not much has been happening i've just been under so much stress that i've run myself down and it has caused me to get headaches for the past two weeks. Went to see my local GP as i thought i had a brain tumor but as he said and everyone else im just stressed cos of whats going to be happening next year. Since i have found out i need surgery i just think about the negative things on what can happen and nothing good, so this has lead me to get a little depressed. So when i started to get these head pains i automatically thought tumor and really bad stuff i can't help but to think what im doing to my body.... im only 21 yrs old and i shouldn't be thinking like this but i just can't help it.
But doc said if i keep going this way he might have to put me on Anti anxiety/depression tablets. I've also been going to the physio cos she thinks it could also be coming from my neck as she said it was stiff. Anyway thought i'd share my feelings and ill let you know how things are going soon. 15th Jan im off for my MRI andCT scan and ill also be seeing my surgeon to arrange and to book an actual date for surgery. Ill keep you all posted.

Hi Everyone,
Just come back from seeing my specialist and im having surgery Mon 7th May 2007. In the mean time i have to get a MRI done to check my spinal cord cause i do have Congenital malformations in the thoracic part of my spine there checking for tethered spinal cord......
Also i have to get a CT scan on my L1,2 &3 vertabres to check the size of my pedicles. He also checked my bending xrays and he said he can only straighten my top curve from 60 to 40 degrees and my lumbar curve will be reduced to around 0 to 5 degrees, which im really happy about. I was told i would need to wear a brace after surgery but today he told me i won't need to wear one but as long as i be careful there shouldn't be a problem. (i think he trusts me not too be stupid). Well all i have to do now is wait till Jan 15th 2007 too get these scans over and done with hopefully all goes well and nothing else is wrong with me.

Not Long till i finalize Everything...

Well only 10 days until i finally come face to face with the date of my surgery. Although im ok now i can tell you im gonna freak out when he asks me to chose a date. But in the end i have to get it over and done with so i might as well get over it.
My backs been fine lately no pain so i suppose thats a good thing..... But im going to start my vitamin takings leading up to the surgery just so i can have enough iron in me for my recovery time. I'm also quitting smoking in a couple of weeks so thats another BIG step i have to take.
Anyway ill let you all know how i go with my specialist he also still has to see my bending x-rays aswell. Hope all goes well for myself.

Well i finally had my bending xrays done yesterday and let me tell you im in so much pain today it feels like i'v done a whole big work out at the gym. My muscles feel sore as. But they made me stretch and bend until i felt like i could go no more. Anyway ill get over it... I had to wait 40 mins to get my report back which ended up being a whole one sentence long (all that waiting for one sentence) in the report it just stated that i have a thorocolumbar scoliosis with the lumbar part compensating with no abnormalties within the bony what ever that means????I'll be seeing my specialist in 3 weeks and ill have to take the xrays with me for him to tell me how much he can correct hopefully good news!!!!!!
I'll keep you updated on what my specialist has to say....

A little bit about me....

Well i ended up getting in to see my physio which was good cause she got rid of my pain so quickly all it ended up being was my joints were really stiff.

Anyway a little bit about me im 21 yrs old im the second oldest of 4 i have three other sisters oldest Vanessa 23yrs, Carly 19yrs and Nicole 16yrs old. My mum Maree and dad Bill. I don't live at home i live with my boyfriend of 5 1/2 yrs Paul 25yrs old and his family which is good cos there's no bitching as when i was living at home i use to argue all the time with my sisters. I feel that im more closer to them now that i don't see them everyday, i only live 10 mins away. I work full time for AGFA - Gevaert at the Head Office which i do Administration for the Accounts Department. I was diagnosed with Scoliosis at 14yrs old but not knowing that i've had it since i was born with is called Congenital Scoliosis which i have 5 vertrebras already fused together at birth which probably caused my spine to curve around it. Anyway i don't have much pain most of the time i have no pain just more discomfort, but i do need surgery just hoping that surgery doesn't cause me too much pain since i don't live with pain at the moment.

well this morning i have woke up with really bad pain in my muscles from just below my ribs to above my hip. Hopefully i can get into my physio tonight. I've had it before its just the way i've slept, it doesn't help when i've been house sitting and sleeping in my parents bed which i don't think it has agreed with my back. The only bed i can actually sleep in is my own since its a new chiropractic bed. I just wish i could sleep in any mattress and not have to worry about waking up feeling like i've been punched and kicked. Anyway enough sooking. Well all i can say thank god its nearly spring in Australia i love the warmer weather but i can't really complain we haven't had much of a winter/Rain here in Melbourne at all which isn't too good for our farms but then again this also means a really hot and dry summer. BRING IT ON!!!!!
Just can't wait to have BBQ's......

Getting Scared......

Well next tuesday im getting my bending X-rays done so that will determine how much of my curve he can correct. But im getting more scared for the fact that on November 2nd i will be seeing my specialist to make a date for my surgery... which ill prob get upset about but then again i could be relieved since it will all be booked in and all i have to do is wait for that date to come. Even though by doctor said this surgery isn't urgent but i did say to him im only 21 yrs old i would rather have it now then when im in my 30's and funny he agreed saying the younger you have it the quicker the recovery.
I have so much faith in my doc and i've heard from a lot of people thats his the best. One lady that runs a Scoliosis Organisation here in Australia say half of the adults in Melbourne go to see him cos he also does revision surgery too.
I think the main factor is you need to trust your surgeon and for me to do a lot of research and to hear from others how good your surgeon is really makes you feel a whole lot better.
Anyway just had to get my thoughts out.

Hi All,
Well this is my first post and also my first blog i've ever done. Well where do i start... ummm ok as some of you may know i have scoliosis and i am waiting to have surgery to fuse my spine from T3 - L3 long fusion i know, but i've read so many positive things about this surgery that now i just can't wait to get it over and done with. I'm 21 yrs old and im from Melbourne, Australia. I have congenital scoliosis which means i was born with some vertrebras already fused together... if that makes sense to you. Anyway i thought by starting this blog it will help me get things out and hopefully it will make me feel a lot better since ill be anxiously waiting for surgery for at least another 7 months.
Anyway in my next posts i will be telling you all about my experience with scoliosis and the pain that i sometimes have to go through.
